Fossa Cheese Fair - Amber of Talamello
According to legend, the origins of “fossa” cheese date back to the mid-1400s. In that period, in fact, the farmers of the Romagna-Marche Apennines to defend themselves from looting, took the habit of hiding provisions in the holes dug into the sandstone rock; so that, after the raids and once freed from the oppression of the armies, could proceed to the unearth of what was hidden, they discovered that the cheese had improved its characteristics.
Visitors will be able to observe the pits and they will be amazed by the amber color of the sandstone that for months have preserved that "precious secret" to which the poet and screenwriter Tonino Guerra gave the name of "Amber of Talamello". Talamello is the only reality that has maintained the tradition that is carried out in August and then resumed in November.
It takes place on the third Sunday of November.
