Village of Petriano

Village of medieval origins on the slopes of the Apennines. Prae tres amnes: above three rivers. This is the meaning of the name of the Borgo di Petriano. The territory of Petriano is in fact crossed by rivers: Apsa (which descends from Urbino), Tagliatesta (which comes from the mountains of the Cesane) and Razzo (which borders the northern borders of the municipal territory).
Medieval village, Petriano preserves the urban layout of the fortified structure. The first document that bears the name of the town dates back to 1096 and is a parchment that attests the properties of the Cathedral of Urbino, including the church of S. Martino di Petriano. With the passing of time the Castle of Petriano became property of the consuls of Urbino following the destinies of the city of Feltre. In 1422 a hospital for the care of the population and travelers was founded by Bonaiuto Ramunzi. In 1860 Petriano became a Municipality of United Italy.
