Palazzo Corsi

Primary tabs

Palazzo Corsi

It belongs to the large complex which includes the Chapel and Theater, commissioned by Benedetto Corsi and built in the years 1777-1794 on a project by the Florentine architect Lorenzo Pozzolini. The building is distributed on four levels corresponding to the extension of three previous fifteenth century building units. The façade, which refers to the architectural style between the eighteenth and neo-classicism, presents three orders of architraved windows. The main, round-headed door has in an archway the coat of arms of the Corsi family. The building was purchased by the City after 1900 and is now the headquarters of the Municipal Historical Library and Archive. On the main floor are the two less altered rooms of the building, the "representative room" and the owner's "bedroom". Both are decorated with stucco, grotesque and neoclassical elements.
