The old Municipal building

It is the palatium comunis castri ditches whose construction in loco and casalino ubi nunc est can be read in the medieval Statutes of the castle, which occurred in the thirteenth century as the building existed on 4 June 1290 for an act that a notary litigation between the Municipality and the monastery of Santa Maria d'Appennino. On the other hand, the year in which the Municipality is mentioned for the first time for Fossato, is 1266. It was the site of the administrative functions of the community. It is located in the center of the castle, on a corner of its main square (but not in the Middle Ages, when in front of it had a large square, because the current church of San Sebastiano did not exist then) and on the confluence of the streets internal. The sweet structure with a wooden roof, immittant on the upper floor of the building and resting on the round stone vault over Via del Forno, is the logia habitationis which can be read in the Publicatio Statutorum of the Statutes of Fossato, which took place on 13 May 1386 , that is, the lodge of the residence of the Vicar of the castle, which there, in the presence of texts, exposes and makes known to all the completed and great Corpus iuris that the free Commune has given itself. The palace in the Middle Ages also housed the curia, in which the vicar administered twice a day justice with open doors, while it was forbidden to stay at the palace, except to pay a small penalty of two soldi, when the council or the correptio statutorum and when it was made the distribution of the wage or the imposition of the collection, that is the taxation. Today it is the headquarters of the municipal Antiquarium.
