Historic center of Borghi

The birth of Borghi can be dated around 1335-1350. The archaeological excavations of the beginning of the millennium, in P.zza S.Croce, have brought to light significant parts of those that were foundation walls, fortifications, fragments of ceramics, coins. The underground paths that cross almost the entire area of the historical center "from one tower to another" remain to be identified. Today the perimeter walls of Malatesta origin remain visible, but over the centuries they have been the subject of necessary restorations. Inside the historic center of Borghi, the church of Santa Croce takes on particular importance. This building was enlarged and rebuilt in 1740 with respect to the first plant dating back to the 16th century. There are no traces of what could be imagined as an ancient castle, as inside the historical "fortification", in addition to the houses of the resident families, there was a large palace belonging to the owners of the feud (Sassatelli family). Until 1944 there was an access door to the historic center with a bell tower above and adjacent rooms where, until 800, the town hall was located. An element of high architectural interest is represented by a cistern of Malatesta origin with an overhanging eighteenth-century loggia. Lovely views.
