Badia di San Bartolomeo

Primary tabs

Badia di San Bartolomeo

At the beginning it was probably a rock temple. The existence of the church is testified for the first time in a document of 1105. It was incorporated as an oratory in the Camaldolese Monastery of St. Bartholomew and constituted the first place of Christian worship within the fortified nucleus of Anghiari. Rebuilt in the fourteenth century by the Tarlati family, as early as 1446 it showed the particular asymmetric plan consisting of four spans with cross vaults. It houses two wooden sculptures of great historical-artistic importance: the Madonna with child attributed to Tino di Camaino (1317 ca) and a Crucifix from the end of the 13th century. Also of great interest is the bell tower, located centrally: it has a square section, open on four sides by mullioned windows.
