Sanctuary of Madonna delle Ghea
The Sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna della Neve alla Ghea is located in the open countryside on the site of an ancient Roman settlement, a short distance from the Pese di Purello, in Ghea. The original structure of the religious building, probably in Gothic style, must have existed before the year 1000, but the first written testimony dates back to 1229. The building underwent considerable changes over the centuries. Certainly we know that in 1574 the particular devotion to the Virgin was already alive, due to the apostolic visit of Pietro Camaiani, but for the previous centuries there is no information as almost all the archival material has been lost. Between 1893 and 1907 the sanctuary was the object of restoration work, as well between 1925 and 1927. Today the church has a single nave, with a gable roof, a wooden roof, a tower bell tower; the very simple exterior is preceded by a portico. On the 5th of August each year is celebrated the Feast of the Madonna della Ghea moment of sharing and devotion for the whole territory of the band.
