Tower of the castle of Lunano

Of historical and artistic character related to the object The Castle of Lunano is situated on a dominant hill the confluence of the stream Mutino in the Foglia River, it was a strategic point of control of the valley and intermittent viability. Its urban development was exceptional. Inside the double wall circuit the Tower of the dominant lords rose, the palaces
noble houses, terraced houses with a circular development towards the top, the house of the municipality, the parish church, that of the Hospital and the Confraternity: a real fortified citadel. After the original possession of free men, Lunano passed under the dominion of the counts of Montefeltro (1228). In the first decades of the fourteenth century, like Sassocorvaro, it was absorbed in the possessions of the lords Brancaleone di Casteldurante: this family held it until 1424, when Pope Martin V was given to the counts in vicaria, then Duchi di Urbino, with aggregation to the Province of the Massa Trabaria. When they were extinct in 1631, it passed into the state of the Church.
