Mount San Lorenzo

The first, the two, the three and the four September 1944, the Nepalese soldiers Gurkha, together with the Sikhs, the Beluchi and the Cameron, launched the offensive on the Gothic Line from the Foglia river, crumbling the resistance of the Germans prepared in the summer months.
The Gurkhas of the 2nd battalion operated, to the white weapon, endowed with only typical Nepali knife - the 'Kukri' - the definitive leap for the battle of Tavoleto that lasted for 5 consecutive hours with frontal collisions of the body and the subsequent German retreat on the northern ridges: Castelnuovo, Gemmano, Piandicastello, Montealtavelio, Sassofeltrio, San Marino and Rimini where today is the Gurkha military cemetery. In the battle of Tavoleto, "the only Germans remained alive were the prisoners - and less than the 30 Gurkhas (of the 90 parties in the night by Ca'Prino, commanded by the English Capt. Hartur Smith), were still able to stand up. But they had taken Tavoleto ".
The name of "Tavoleto", today bears the battalion Gurkhas 2 \ 7, a "battle honor" granted only to this department during the Second World War (as remembered by Maestro Luigi Signorotti, historian of the village.) The area today is a continuous destination of memory travel especially by members of the British army, the Nepalese Indian army and members of the English crown.
