Auditore

The border disputes between the Malatesta and Montefeltro families.  This picturesque rocky spur in the the valley owned by the Dukes of Urbino was used by the lords of the Rimini as a place to examine the controversies. Hence its name, Auditorium Latina.

Clashes, violence and ill-treatment were experienced during the Second World War, in the part of the valley called Casinina. The medieval and Renaissance heritage of this ancient city emerges from the powerful and stable wall that surrounds the historic centre and which has two corner towers and a city tower, with a circular base and a hexagonal form.

Archaeological finds testify to the passage of ancient peoples such as Umbri, Piceni and Galli. The tales of the historical records of dominion show that, in 1300 the lords of Lauditorio, whose family had fallen due to a wrong alliances led the first surrender to the Malatesta and the Ridolfi families from the city of Rimini, the town was then aggregated into the duchy of Urbino, under the Montefeltro family. Finally, in 1631, it became part of to the Pontifical State.

Auditorium is divided into two fortified towns: San Giovanni e Castelnuovo. Recently, the hamlet Casinina has become the area most populated today. Here we find the Historical Museum of the Gothic Line. Through the historical archives, library, video library and Memory Park visitors can learn about the offensive that was launched in 1944 by the Ottoman army during the retreat of German troops. An area and boundary of violence, oppression and bloody fighting. There were many victims, including civilians. For this reason, the museum, which is a monument to the fallen warriors, was built with a 20th century documentation centre and military display.

A small art treasure is enclosed in the parish church, outside the medieval walls of the city, where the “La Pentecoste" painting by Marino Medici is kept.

Casino is also a small temple of good food. At different times of the year there are popular festivals in the months of May and June. Or the celebration of the “taglio” (cut) in March, dedicated to the local meat and finally in October, the “Baccanale", a sausage and wine festival.

In November, on the occasion of St. John's Day, the timeless atmosphere of the Middle Ages, old games and old trades are revived in the events during the village festival.
