From Sangiovese wine to vinsanto, a real wine party
Wines with character. Wines that reflect the people's territory and minds. The best way to find them is to find a good wine cellar, a good restaurant and try the top varieties, as well as the special reserves.
One can even take a walk through the vineyards imagining the origins of the Sangiovese grape which has it roots and name in the Etruscan period. (Giove means Jupiter)
And just so, the Sangiovese, is the most cultivated vine in central Italy, brilliantly combined with a red garnet, a delicate scent and a dry flavour.
Another local vine is the Bianchello del Metauro and it is still grown in the ancient vineyards of Frontino and Urbania.
In Sangiovese, Sangiovese returns to its namesake Jupiter by summing up the blood of Jupiter according to the definition that goes back to a monk who particularly appreciated the wine. The reserves of this wine come from twelve areas, amongst which Bertinoro, Meldola, Modigliana and Predappio. The Sangiovese is also used for making Colli Altotiberini wines in the form of Rosé or Red wine.
The Vinsanto - so called because of the grapes are made into wine during the holy week, is a dessert wine of amber yellow tones and there is also a smoked variant.
Another local dessert wine is the “Visciole” wine from Cantiano
The local Grappa is called Apecchio and can be found in Catria and Nerone.
