St. Philip

The church of San Filippo has an unusual octagonal plan with a lantern and a small portico of access, there is no certain information of its foundation but it is probably datable to the fifteenth century. Completely restored around the seventeenth in honor of the birth of the heir of the Duke of Urbino in 1605. The church has repeatedly changed title but is undeniable its original dedication to the "Immaculate Conception", present in many works inside as the wooden statue Golden traditionally attributed to Lorenzo Ghiberti of the Madonna Annunciata, the door of the Annunciation by Raffaellino del Colle or the entire cycle of frescoes in the dome that narrate events of the Life of the Virgin realized, in honor of the wedding of the heir of the Dukes of Urbino Federico Ubaldo with Claudia de Medici, in 1629 by a northern painter August Albrecht Wallentein.
