Porta del Soccorso
The Porta del Soccorso owes its name to the tradition according to which, from this point of the city walls, Countess Aldruda Frangipane, Lady of Bertinoro, brought out the Bertinoro troops to bring relief to the city of Ancona besieged by the troops of the Archbishop Cristiano di Mainz in 1173. In reality, it is not a real gateway to the city, but a breach, flanked by a circular base tower, which was used to carry out sorties in case of siege led to the Bishop's Fortress.
