Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo
The Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo is located about 1 km south of the town and is one of the oldest and most important churches in the area. For its dating there are no certain elements, but the construction technique unites this building with the Byzantine ones of S. Vitale and S. Apollinare in Classe dating back to the 6th century. The building has a single nave with a polygonal apse on the outside, oversized in relation to the size of the church as it is assumed to have incorporated the ancient pagan time on which the Byzantine parish church was built. The façade, slightly oblique, has another singular element: the bell tower located in the center. At the base of the bell tower, with a square section and a later period, there is the main entrance of the building which originally had even seven. Inside we point out the ancient baptismal font and the stone cippus, under the altar, depicting an eagle in the act of capturing a prey.
