Palazzo Gaddi

Primary tabs

Palazzo Gaddi

Risen from an aggregation of medieval houses, it became, through successive transformations over the centuries, one of the most important noble palaces of the city. Of the original building remains the portico with the loggia and the hall with the pediments, assignable to the late sixteenth century. In the 1700s the Gaddi intervened in a remarkable way on the Palace, turning it into a sumptuous Baroque residence, with the construction of the staircase leading to the main floor and the elevation of the building body of the hall, also visible from Corso Garibaldi. The imposing but bare appearance of the exposed brick façade contrasts with the wealth of stuccowork, frescoes and interior decorations. The entrance hall leads to the majestic eighteenth-century staircase, where a large Baroque statue of the Abundance stands out in the first landing. The dome, set on a vaulted ceiling with fine stuccoes in the four pendentives, is frescoed with scenes from the Triumph of Zephyrus and Flora. From the upper landing you enter the beautiful hall, now Sala Gaddi. Spread over eight rooms, inside the palace is the Museo del Risorgimento 'Aurelio Saffi'. In addition, the palace also houses the Theater Museum, the first nucleus of which was born from the donation of the heirs of the Forlì tenor Angelo Masini.
