Palazzo del Merenda
Ancient 'House of God', of eighteenth-century origin, was designed by Giuseppe Merenda as a civil hospital, located in the main street of the city. The building, built as a hospital in the first half of the eighteenth century, following the activation in 1922 of the Morgagni Hospital in the back area (now closed), became the seat of the'Saffi 'Municipal Library and later also of the Artistic and Cultural Institutes of the city and of the civic art gallery 'Melozzo degli Ambrogi'. Its façade, completed in 1827, presents niches with neoclassical statues such as La Carità by the Ballanti Graziani brothers, in the upper right corner. At the entrance, the monumental staircase designed by Raimondo Compagnini, flanked by statues of Munificenza and Carità by Francesco Andreoli, leads to the main floor that houses the A. Saffi Library.
