Natural Park of Monti Rognosi and Valle del Sovara
The Park of Monti Rognosi and Valle del Sovara is one of the most particular and evocative of the Tuscan Valtiberina. With an area of about 1,500 hectares, it includes the Monti Rognosi Nature Reserve and its contiguous area. The group of mountains of the Rognosi Mountains is located north-west of Anghiari and is jammed between the Alpe di Catenaia, north of Arezzo, and the Apennine range, distinguished by its particular morphology and its rugged landscape. To make the Rognosi Mountains so unique is the geological composition: they are in fact made entirely of ophiolites, from the Greek ophis (snake) and lithos (rock), then "snake rock", of magmatic origin predominantly dark green and black color on which a unique vegetation grows, with endemic and specialized species. These same rocks have had a considerable importance for man, who exploited them to obtain copper and stone minerals.
