Restyling of the San Domenico monumental complex includes Palazzo Pasquali, Church of San Giacomo Apostolo, Convent of the Dominicans, Convent of the Augustinians and Sala Santa Caterina. The surface of the Church of St. James the Apostle is over 1400 square meters, while the surface of the convent is over 5900 square meters. The original church (XIII century) was smaller than the existing one; the subsequent phase of Renaissance expansion prolongs the hall with the progressive advancement of the façade and the addition of chapels, up to the current situation, which reflects the renovation completed in 1704. In the Napoleonic period the church is expropriated for military use, it will be definitively acquired to the patrimony of the State in 1866-67. From that moment on, the phenomenon of deterioration began, culminating in 1978 with the collapse of part of the roof and of the southern façade. The function assigned to the complex is that of the Pinacoteca and the civic museums (convent) and of the multifunctional assembly space (church), maintaining the civic library in the Palazzo del Merenda, in connection with the university campus. Among the most famous works contained in the Pinacoteca there are the Annunciation by Marco Palmezzano and, since 2009, the Ebe of Canova.
