Monastery of Saint Anthony of Padua

The monastery stands at the ancient Rocca di Billi, the ancient walls of the castle were incorporated into the building that houses the Augustinian nuns. As the ancient documents handed down to us, Giovanni Lucis was the first founder of the convent of the city's nuns, as shown in the coat of arms inside the door. Lucis 'donation was solemnly stipulated with an act of 1518, after having obtained the removal of the material for the construction from the walls of the castle above, with the consent of the vicar of Lorenzo de' Medici, duke of Urbino. The first foundation of the monastery can be fixed in the previous year 1517. In 1571 the order of the Umiliate was suppressed and only in 1624 the monastery embraced the rule of San Domenico. On April 25, 1810, the convent was suppressed by Napoleonic decree; later he returned to live with the arrival of the nuns of the convent of Pietrarubbia, and it was then that the monastery received the rule of St. Augustine. Since then, the Augustinian nuns have inhabited and preserved that place until today, and a recent flowering of vocations has given new life to this spiritual presence.
