Maciano cylindrical tower
The suggestive cylindrical tower of Maciano dates back to the fourteenth century and dominates the ruins of the ancient fortress built and rebuilt between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries. There are no historical records of the castle of Maciano before the middle of the fourteenth century. In 1410 the castle was administered directly by the Church; subsequently, following a Malatesta expansion towards Tuscany, the castle passed to the Malatesta family and later, with the advent of the continuous struggles and hostilities between the Malatesta and the Montefeltro family, it was Federico da Montefeltro who in 1458 put in and fire the castle; the population resisted him for eight days but in the end the castle was razed to the ground. 16.5 meters high placed at 521 m asl, it is built with local stone blocks (alberese), positioned without following regular criteria of progression in elevation. Restored in 2008.
