Hermitage of Serrasanta

On the summit of Monte Serrasanta, at an altitude of 1348 meters, is located the ancient Hermitage. The complex consists of a medieval church dedicated to the SS. Trinity, with a portico-shelter always open on the side at midday, and overlooking an underground ravine, evocative place of meditation and prayer. This is already sanctified by the presence of hermits and anchorites that, through the centuries, have populated the rugged slopes of the Serrasanta, including San Facondino, San Gioventino, San Rinaldo, San Romualdo, San Pier Damiani, San Giovanni da Lodi and San Francesco . Inside the small church there is a copy of an altar piece in ceramic from the Della Robbia school, made in 1927 by the local ceramist Giuseppe Pericoli. This was built to replace the original majolica (c. 1528) transferred to the monumental church of S. Francesco following the theft of some of its parts. On the back of the church there is a large receptive structure, managed by the Confraternity of the SS. Trinity that offers, during the summer, a welcoming place for food for devotees, tourists and visitors. From the square of the church, dominated by a large metal cross, it is possible to admire evocative views of the city, the Gualdese valley, and the Apennines as far as the Sibillini Mountains or the Fabriano valley. In particular weather conditions you can see the Adriatic Sea and Lake Trasimeno in the distance.
