The Golfarelli Theater

Primary tabs

The Golfarelli Theater

Designed in 1811 by the architect Giuseppe Missirini on a pre-existing theatrical plant with a very elongated polygonal plan, it was built starting from 1812 at the expense of Lorenzo Golfarelli who intended in this way to celebrate the taking of Moscow by Napoleon.
The works lasted until the winter of 1825 and the new theater hall could be inaugurated in May of that year. The decoration and the stuccos were executed by the Bolognese painter Silvio Gordini. Works carried out after 1970, the year in which the theater was badly damaged by a fire, have upset the original architectural features of the theater. To date it is undergoing restoration.
