Crypt of San Biagio

Crypt of San Biagio

A rare example of early Christian architecture, the Crypt of San Biagio is the oldest crypt in the Marche region and dates back
probably in the 5th century AD. The four columns of different invoice that delimit the three naves of the central part of the crypt testify to the re-utilization of ancient pagan buildings. The four columns divide the central area into three naves that lead to the apsidal area, where on the sides there are two chapels ending with circular apses. On the bottom there is the altar, which according to tradition belongs to a pagan temple sacrificial altar. The crypt is surmounted by an upper chapel, the current cemetery church.
