Church Santa Maria delle Grazie

Primary tabs

Church Santa Maria delle Grazie

The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, with its annexed oratory, was erected by the company of the same name in 1518 and has always been considered the Marian shrine of the city. The wooden entrance gates are striking in the church, in which skulls and skeletons are depicted. This is due to the fact that the Confraternity of Santa Maria was also known as the Confraternity of Death. On the main altar there is a table depicting the Madonna delle Grazie, made in 1555 by the painter Raffaellino dal Colle. The ceiling of the church is coffered wood with carved symbols of death and the Virgin.
