Church of San Bernardino - Mausoleum of Dukes

The Mausoleum of the Dukes is located about two kilometers from the historic center, in the area of the Cesane on the hill of San Donato. Tradition attributes the building to Donato Bramante, confirmed inside by architectonic typical elements of the architect, even if today we tend to attribute the paternity to Francesco di Giorgio Martini, and actually from the outside the church reveals the hand of the Sienese architect , both in general lines and in details. Federico da Montefeltro himself wanted the building to be destined for a ducal mausoleum, but the works at his death (1482) were not finished (they would have lasted until 1491) and the Duke would have been buried, awaiting translation, in the adjacent Church of S. Donato.
