Cathedral of Bertinoro
The Cathedral of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria was built at the end of the XVI century on commission of the bishop Giovanni Andrea Caligari.
Completed in 1601, this big building is spread over three large naves divided by Ionic style columns.
The high altar is surmounted by an altarpiece representing the Mystic Wedding of Santa Caterina, by the painter Giuseppe Marchetti (1722-1801).
Of particular value are the paintings depicting the Madonna enthroned with the Saints Apostles Peter and Paul made by Francesco Longhi (1544-1618) and San Carlo Borromeo in prayer by Felice Cignani (1660-1724).
In the chapel to the right of the main altar, there is an impressive wooden crucifix of German school dating from the end of the century. XVI, which is said to have been donated by a pilgrim for hospitality received.
