Alpe della Luna Nature Reserve

The Alpe della Luna Nature Reserve covers 1540 hectares in the municipal areas of Sansepolcro and Badia Tedalda. It is not crossed by important routes of communication, nor is it characterized by the presence of relevant residential areas. It therefore turns out to be a fairly intact area, where the flora and fauna live in a free and uncontaminated way. It is almost completely covered by woods, but there are also observation points from which you can enjoy enchanting and evocative landscapes. In 1944 at the hands of the German army, the territory of the reserve was affected by the construction of the Gothic Line, a set of fortifications built along the central Appennino in order to slow down the allied army's ascent. Today trench remains are still visible even if they are covered by vegetation. The territory is also rich in hiking trails leading to the most significant points of the reserve, as well as the numerous shelters that can accommodate hikers.
