Bonaventura Palace - University of Urbino Carlo Bo

It stands at the top of the Poggio, at the southern end of Piazza Rinascimento, which is the backdrop to the nearby Palazzo Antaldi: the two buildings are in fact just divided by the Via Saffi loophole that starts at the corner of Via del Poggio. Here it was the ancient residence of the Counts Montefeltro, certainly already in the fourteenth century as can be seen from the Gothic stone portal of the Furlo surmounted by the coats of arms of Count Antonio (around 1404) and his wife Agnesina de 'Prefetti di Vico. Guidantonio (around 1443) and his sons, Oddantonio and Federico himself lived here too, until shortly after the middle of the century they did not move with the family and the court to the Iole apartment in the new building. In 1466 the house was ceded by Federico to the Bonaventura, who sometimes, absent the Dukes, even ruled the state. In this palace Federico hosted Torquato Tasso, as evidenced by a plaque with the facade facing Piazza Rinascimento. The building was transformed in the seventeenth century on the design of the architect Muzio Oddi acquiring the forms still maintained today. Currently the Palace houses university buildings.
