Archaeological area of the Roman city of Mevanìola
The site of the Roman city of Mevanìola has been excavated several times by the Archaeological Superintendence of Emilia-Romagna. The research has brought to light some structures that can be connected to the city system: the thermal building (partially visible), the hypothetical court area, the small theater and the cistern (visible). The small town was presumably organized in terraces, with the systematic public buildings around a main street that had to follow the course of the current country road that crosses the archaeological zone. In 1993 a sector of the necropolis was investigated, the finds are exhibited in the area "Mons. Domenico Mambrini ". The name Mevanìola recalls the ancient Mevania, today Bevagna in Umbria, but the relationships between the cities and the two toponyms are not yet clear.
