Bridge of San Giovanni

The bridge, located along the Via Flaminia route, presumably dates back to the Augustan age. It has a single archway, shoulders and masonry supporting a square work. It was the bridge used by the Romans to climb over a stream that has now disappeared and was built in the context of the works of arrangement of the consular road. The monument is an opportunity to make an itinerary to visit other Roman bridges, built along the Flaminia route which, entering Umbria at the height of Otricoli, exited to head on the Adriatic coast near Scheggia where it is visible among the vegetation the last bridge of the street in the Umbrian territory. Of the Roman artifact, part of the arch and the spallette are conserved, made in the square work of large blocks of limestone with a dry lining (the brick part is a modern restoration). The bridge can be dated to the early imperial age (1st century AD). The restoration was recently completed. It is easily reached from the current S.S. 3 Flaminia as from the S.S. 76 of the Val d "Esino being a short distance from the intersection of the two roads.
