Church of San Francesco
The Church of San Francesco, located in Via Beato Ranieri, was the first in Sansepolcro to be built following the Gothic style (XIII century) and was erected by the order of the Franciscan friars. The building is surmounted by an imposing bell tower, while inside the eighteenth-century setting is lit by the light of the walls. Among the main works that it contains, there is the representation of the stigmata of St. Francis, placed in the ceiling above the altar. We also note the presence of the body of Blessed Ranieri, a Franciscan friar who died in 1304, kept inside the underground crypt. Another particularity to underline is that in the church there is an important and ancient model of pipe organ and that for this reason, the church is the seat of the two city choirs: the choir Domenico Stella and the Chorus Città di Piero.
