Leonardo Da Vinci Museum and the Romagna

The museum collects anastatic copies of ancient documents and studies by the great artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) who in 1502 traveled through Romagna following the army of Cesare Borgia. The collection is divided into two sections, one scientific and one ethnographic. The first includes manuscripts and drawings concerning aspects of physics, mechanics and hydraulics; the second one, studies on the customs and traditions of the romagnole traditions of that historical period. Some drawings depict the so-called "concavities", conical grooves dug into the ground that were used by shepherds to amplify the sounds of the horns, thus being able to communicate over great distances. In the nearby San Donato Park in Vignola, two concavities have been created, thanks to which it is possible to listen to sounds similar to those that Leonardo himself heard over five hundred years ago in our lands. The museum and the park were inaugurated on June 14th, 2008.
