Giovanni Pascoli

Sogliano al Rubicone has a deep connection with Giovanni Pascoli (1855 - 1912), who was awarded honorary citizenship in 1906. Di Sogliano was the poet's maternal grandmother; Aunt Rita Vincenzi has often hosted the Pastures and the sisters Ida and Maria were educated in the monastery of the Agostiniane in Sogliano. Some lyrics - Il Pellegrino, Fareio - were composed in Sogliano, while others - Placido, Sister Virginia, L'Asino - were inspired by this place. Sogliano represents for Pascoli a happy parenthesis, a moment in which life is still in front of him and dreams are still realizable.
