Toppole

The Castle of Toppole is part of the system of a fortified settlement on the right of the Sovara valley, together with Valialle (dating back to the year 1000, of which only a few sections of the walls remain), Casale, Upacchi and Scoiano. The first records date back to 1087, when Enrico di Bernardo di Galbino undertook to defend Toppole on behalf of the Aretine bishops. Later the castle was subject to various successions: Camaldolesi monks, Ranieri di Galbino, the Aretine family of Tarlati and finally the Florentines.
