Sanctuary of the Carmine

Born following the apparition of the Madonna to a shepherdess. At the event, which occurred on July 11, 1536, immediately followed the construction of the building, designed by the architect Giovan Battista Camerini da Bibbiena. Built between 1536 and 1552, it was first occupied by the Observant Franciscans, then by the Carmelites until the end of the 18th century, when it was entrusted to the Camaldolese for a short period.
