Pieve di Santa Maria in Micciano

A few kilometers from Anghiari, along the road that leads to Caprese Michelangelo, you can see on the left in a raised position the Pieve di Santa Maria in Micciano. The building, built around the eighth century, was the baptismal font of the Anghiarese community until, shortly after the famous Battle of Anghiari of 29 June 1440, a baptistery was built in the village. Surrounded by fields and introduced by a row of cypress trees, the church is incorporated into a complex of buildings from different eras that have eliminated the characteristics of a church with three naves and three apses.
