Sanctuary of the Madonna del Grottone

Small rocky sanctuary located in the shelter of a large natural cave, which can be reached on foot within 15-20 minutes from an easy path that starts from Foce Alta of the Petrara district. During the years of resistance, the cave constituted a shelter for local partisans. At the end of the 80s on the bottom of the cave was placed a statue of the Madonna from the then parish priest of Serra Sant'Abbondio together with the community of the faithful. Along the path that leads to the "Grottone" the stations of the Via Crucis have been set up. Every year, on the last Sunday of July, a procession and a Mass takes place inside the cave.
