Feast of St. Sebastian (Patron of the Municipality)

Often in the past San Sebastiano was invoked as a protector against the plague. Martyred under Diocletian, he is usually depicted pierced by arrows. The body was recovered by pious hands and buried in the catacombs which today are called "di San Sebastiano". Today the Saint is invoked against epidemics in general. The liturgical memorial occurs on January 20th each year, the day of the feast dedicated to him. San Sebastiano is the patron of many Italian Municipalities including the Municipality of Valfabbrica. The Church of San Sebastiano, owned by the Municipality, is dedicated to the Saint and is located inside the castle of Valfabbrica. It is close to the ancient bell tower, on the perimeter wall east of the castle and has inside several eighteenth-century altars, the main one completely restored in the 30’s and the others recently only partially. Behind the central altar there is a 17th century painting depicting the Crucifix with S. Sebastiano and S. Francesco on either side. The building has been completely restored by the Superintendent of Artistic and Cultural Heritage. January 20th of each year.
