Palazzo del Podestà and Torre Civica - Museum of Regional Emigration "Pietro Conti"

In Piazza Soprammuro there are the Palazzo del Podestà and the Torre Civica dating back to the 13th century. and they were the headquarters of the magistrate in charge of the city government. Today the Palace is just a third of the original structure for the damage suffered by the earthquake of 1751. Its size and, originally, the moat that protected it, made it an imposing military structure called Rocca Minore, compared to the majestic Rocca Flea . Today the Palace is home to the "Pietro Conti" Regional Museum of Emigration. The "Pietro Conti" Museum of Emigration was created to underline the historical, cultural and human heritage linked to the great migration exodus that involved Italy from the end of the 1800s and which involved more than 27 million departures. Made with the technique of video projections, it involves the visitor in an emotional journey backwards: the arrival, the journey and the departure. Documents, images and stories from all regions of Italy. A choral trip that has as its protagonist the emigrant: the goodbyes, the encounter and the clash with the foreign country, the nostalgia, the joys and the daily sorrows, the integration in the new reality, the defeats and the victories, the confrontation and reflection with today's immigration. The Museum is a study center, an educational laboratory and a place of memory.
