Archaeological site of the castle of Montecopiolo
The medieval castle of Montecopiolo, recovered from the Ce.A.M., is truly worth a visit, not only as an archaeological testimony, but also for the stupendous view that can be enjoyed from 1030 meters of the rocky spur on which it is located. This place is the '' Cradle of the Montefeltro '': the Counts of Montecopiolo, in the XIII century, were invested with the Counts of Montefeltro, and then became Dukes of Urbino, '' writing '' the history of this territory. The historical investigations on the castle have brought to light the ancient village and through the annual excavation campaigns, in addition to bringing to light the complex structures of the fortification, we investigate some aspects related to the long duration of the settlement, both the changes suffered throughout history, especially during the Middle Ages.
