Life and foods of the sea

It should be no wonder that the sea is part of the Apennines.   In our territory, the sea and the mountains are contemplated and complemented by each other, from the shores of Rubicone to the trails through villages and terraces which illuminate their respective colours.

Interestingly, it was the colour of the sails that the local women, waiting on the pier with their children, recognised the fisherman's boat that was coming home again. This is a real example of maritime life along with the hardship and satisfactions combined with tradition and tourist promotion, with many events. The statue of "La Mà" (La Madre) on the west pier of Cesenatico is dedicated to this image.

In the town we find the “Marineria” Museum, an example of tradition and innovation, with the historic moorings alongside modern fishing boats making a true mix of history and modernity. One has to stop for a moment to observe the harbour which was designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Also worth a visit is the old fish market, in the “Piazzetta delle Conserve” part of the town.

Also in Cesenatico, in August, the famous "Rustida" takes place on the evening before Ferragosto. Naturally the area boasts many traditional dishes made with patience and respect.

Examples of this are the Romagnola fish soup, roasted anchovies, eels, sardines, salt cod pancakes, cuttlefish with peas and Parma ham.
