Palio of the Fortress

Great manifestation reminiscent of the construction of the Rocca di Serra Sant'Abbondio by the military architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini, during the rule of the duke Federico da Montefeltro (1444-1482). The re-enactment takes place every year on the weekend before September 16, the day of the patron saint Sant'Abbondio, and represents, in the three days, a reconstruction of the medieval era with musical, theatrical and juggling shows. It culminates with the spectacular Race of the geese, competition between the three castles and the three villages, which compete for "Il Palio della Rocca" depicting the image of Sant'Abbondio, Roman priest and martyr under the persecution of Diocletian (year 304 approximately) .
