The walls are the element that characterizes the village of Anghiari, together with the Cross, that is to say the road that continues straight from the town center and cuts the valley in two. The current walls are the result of the renovations made in the fifteenth and fifth centuries to adapt the city's defenses to the use of gunpowder: the walls were thickened and at the base and the bastions were built. There are three access gates to the fortified town: San Martino, Nuova and Sant'Angelo.
