Palace of the Monte di Pietà
The Monte di Pietà is a 16th century architectural jewel located in the historic center just a few steps from Piazza Saffi. The austere building, built in the first half of the 16th century in brown bricks, has a simple and imposing façade, crowned by a beautiful cornice with wooden and stone shelves rebuilt at the end of the eighteenth century. The capitals, of Ionic and composite order, and the trabeation are in sandstone. In 1931 the original character of the façade was strongly altered with the opening of the blind arches on the ground floor, where currently some shops are housed. Inside, on the ground floor there is a large staircase with vaulted roofs and, in another room, a fresco depicting a Pietà with the Saints Mercuriale and Valeriano. On the first floor there are some marble capitals with the coat of arms of the Ordelaffi.
