House of Pope Clement XIV
In this house, the town of Borgo Pace was the birthplace of Lorenzo Garganelli in 1647, a physician of Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna, who was the father of Giovanni Vincenzo. That said, it seems little: it is much better known as Pope Clement XIV.
At the age of 18, Giovanni decided to enter the minor Franciscans as fra 'Lorenzo, and in 1769 he became Pope. Not even four years passed, in 1773 he faced one of the most difficult decisions of his career, due to the Enlightenment, it was practically forced to dissolve the Jesuit Order, under the pressure of the new scientific and philosophical culture that advanced.
The year after his assignment ended, certainly not by his choice, because he died, probably poisoned, for having suppressed the "Society of Jesus".
Among his greatest works we can remember the Clementine Museum, in Rome, to preserve the antiquities.
This house is still inhabited and is recognizable thanks to the representation of the Pope on the walls.
